On June 12, 2014, a doe at the University of Georgia Deer Research Facility in Athens, Georgia, gave birth to two fawns, and one of them was a rare piebald fawn. Piebald deer are usually born with a number of deformities that make it tough for these rare deer to survive in the wild, and this fawn has several of them, including a malformed spine and legs, a severe overbite, and a mostly white coat. In this video, David Osborn, Wildlife Research Coordinator at UGA’s D.B. Warnell School of Forestry Resources, further explains the piebald condition.
